Horrible.
I tend to be a little over cautious and throw my hazards on too quickly when traffic seems to be rapidly slowing down, but that’s such a dangerous situation, especially knowing how distracted most drivers are.
I was lucky enough to be able to swerve into an unused, blocked off construction area when the (small) truck in front of me slammed into a stopped car on the highway when I was young; quite a wake-up call on how fast conditions can change, and how I needed to stay further back to be able to see around whoever is in front of me.

Sounds like the truck driver wasn’t paying attention. This sounds familiar, like a daily occurrence. Automated trucks can’t come soon enough.

Oh man. I cannot imagine going through that. My condolences to the family :(

...a big rig collided with slowing traffic...
The big rig slammed into five other vehicles...
It is believed that the driver of the big rig... was unable to stop in time...
So many questions. Was the driver not paying attention? Or not maintaining a large enough following distance to stop? Was he cut off by other drivers jumping into his braking zone? Were the truck’s brakes in proper working order? Or the trailer brakes, for that matter?

Very sad.
And either this truck driver wasn’t paying attention or the brakes on h is rig or the trailer were shot.
